CONCURSO TALCA

The Talca Competition proposes the transformation of the former Talca prison in Chile into a new civic and public space. The proposal is structured around the concept of “Urban Chess,” using continuous plates that extend toward La Alameda to consolidate an integrated system of public spaces. The project inverts conventional logic, being conceived from the void and the freedom of movement, allowing architecture to function as an open infrastructure for gathering and cultural expression. As a key element of historical value, a fragment of the original prison typology is preserved and reinterpreted as an exhibition space, maintaining the site’s heritage memory within a forward-looking urban proposal.
